Covid Update: All Shinrai Lanka Staff are Now Vaccinated!

Recently, you might have been hearing all about smart home technology and home automation systems. It’s fast becoming a way of life to have such modern conveniences included in our homes.

But have you ever wondered how exactly you can exert control over your home and get it to function the way you want?

Keep scrolling to find out!

  1. Voice Control

When people think of smart home technology, this is the kind of control that most often comes to mind. All you have to do is utter a verbal command, and your house will obey like a well-trained butler.

By making use of voice assistants like Amazon’s Alexa or Google Assistant, you just need to speak to your home to get things done, whether that’s controlling your lights, sound systems or air conditioning.

2. Mobile App

Mobile apps are a handy way to control your home automation system. Nowadays, we all have our smartphones on us 24/7, for better or worse. And in this circumstance, it’s definitely a plus.

With a tap on your smartphone on the dedicated mobile app, you can turn the lights on or off, turn up the volume on your speakers, close your blinds and more! This means you don’t have to physically get up or move from where you are in your house to do any of these things as long as you have your phone with you.

Another benefit of controlling smart home technology using a mobile app is that you can do it remotely. Whether you’re at work and need to turn something off at home or you’re on holiday and want to turn on the garden lights at night, you can do it from your phone app as long as you are connected to the internet.

At Shinrai, we use an app called HomeMate by Orbivo, which allows you to control everything from smart lighting to the smart devices you choose to have in your home.

3. Touch Panel

Many modern apartments have built-in touch panels. Using these you can control things like lighting, sound systems, thermostats and other smart devices. Touch panels are also good for certain rooms or venues within offices and event spaces. This is because they offer a set of functions that you can easily view and operate from one physical location, to control your smart home, apartment or office.

While you do have to walk up to the touch panel in order to use it, for places like offices and other publicly or commercially used establishments, it can be advantageous to have a known location from which you can control all the smart devices in the building; one that multiple employees know where to find. In contrast, using a mobile app on a phone might not be as convenient in this scenario, since the phone could get misplaced, run out of charge or simply not be available when needed.
